I'm interested in trying out d using MacOS X, but if I understand correctly, one
must basically recompile
gcc to do this. Is there a simpler way?

May 05, 2004
I just build a pkg for MacOS X, containing gcc-3.4.0 with support for the following languages:
- c
- c++
- d ( release: 1f )
- java
- fortran
- ada

At first I thought, it would be helpful, but that package is 77MB big, and probably runs only on MacOS X 10.3...
If anyone is interested in this file anyway, I will have to think of a way to distribute it (bittorrent, edonkey, etc.)

Yes, I'd be very interested in such a beast, especially if you were going to maintain it for 1g, 1h, etc. :-)

I will try to stay up to date with the packages.

I am sharing the file on edonkey for now...

ed2k://|file|gcc-3.4.0-1f.dmg.bz2|80790269|34B797CE97BD4FD9651971420FBDC1A0|/

It might be faster and probably more comfortable to compile it yourself though ;)

Thanks for going to this effort.

Any help with setting up edonkey would be desirable. I've downloaded overnet
and fiddled around with
this for a while. I can search for files and that seems to be about it. I've
tried downloading a couple of
files without success, as it seems to perpetually look for the file. I've tried
opening ports on my router/
firewall to make my status "open", with apparently no help. Also, the file
referenced in this message
doesn't show up in a search, but given that I can't download anything anyway,
that point is kind of
moot.

Hopefully I'm doing something obviously wrong...

Thanks in advance for any help.

I have just learned that I have 100MB webspace at my university, so I will put it there. I don't know if the quota is for my homedirectory or just for the homepage area... hopefully the latter is true, or I won't have enough quota.
You will find the file at:

http://www.tu-harburg.de/~sibz0149/gcc-3.4.0-1f.dmg.bz2

So you can forget about eDonkey for now. I wouldn't have been such a great help myself anyway. I wanted to use mldonkey (http://mldonkey.org), but when I try to download the file from another client, the download won't start...

Thank you for the file. For whatever reason the installer runs, but I do not
see the directory anywhere
after the installation finishes. Any idea what I may be doing wrong?

Apparently the default install directory for this package is /. Also, it does
not create a directory gcc
-3.4, just installs all the directories directly in the chosen directory. I
wonder what I mangled by doing
that...so for not big problems, but I'm not that familiar with the directory
system of OS X.

I am very sorry, that it installs itself into /. Unfortunatly, I didn't have the time to fix it yet, and I guess it will have to wait until mid of June.
The package will install into the following directories:
/bin
/include
/info
/lib
/libexec
/man
/share
I guess all directories were created by the installer, except /bin.
In /bin you can do `ls -lrt` to see the directory sorted by date. The files in the installer were created "30 Apr 2:27". You can delete them or move them somewhere else. BE CAREFUL! You don't want to delete your /bin dir, like I did :) Luckily, I had a backup...
