Greetings!

I am trying to find a way to search on new posted articles on digital mars. I know I can search on old articles by using the search entry, but this only provides older articles. Any way to search on fresh news articles?

thanks,

josé

I'd suggest you use a news reader: such as Mozilla Thunderbird.

My friend, I wish I could. My company does not allow me to read newsgroup through news readers. I could use the web interface and that's it.

So, there is no way to search through actual articles other than using a news reader? That just can't be possible. Not at this age and time of technology! :-)

This issue has come up before and getting Google to index the archives is the closest we've come to good solution. I know it's not a complete solution, but at least it covers everyting except the last fours months or so.

There are some kludgy methods that I've used in the past for searching through the web interface. They are mentioned in the following FAQ entry:

[Question]

I am just starting to learn about D, and will probably have a number of comments and questions, but I don't want to waste peoples time by asking about things that have already been discussed. ... Is there a way to search the history of the newsgroup? -- Sam (D:27742)

[Answer]

If you want to avoid asking the same question that someone else has already asked I've got some tips, but they're not foolproof. We won't jump all over you for asking a common question again.

You can search the old newsgroup archives by using the Digital Mars search form.

The web interface to each DigitalMars newsgroup will sort by Subject by clicking on the Subject tab at the top of the page, but you will probably have to click through a lot of pages to find the subject you're seeking. I've used it quite a bit, so I've gotten pretty good at navigating around it.

The best way to follow this newsgroup is with a newsreader (such as Mozilla Thunderbird or MS Outloook). It's easier to follow threads, posts show up quicker, posts can be cancelled, and you can usually sort or filter on Subject. For example with Thunderbird, there's a "Subject or Sender contains" box where I can type search criteria.

Wiki4D has a variety of information about D; and it does have a Search function. There's a "Search Site" box at the DigitalMars website, but it only covers the web pages (not the newsgroup).

If these tips don't help you with your questions, go ahead and ask your questions here by adding them at the end of this FAQ, by posting to NewsDmD, or at dsource.org. The D community is pretty friendly.
