Hello !!!

My name is Marcelo, and I'm a newby on this forum, but my question is simple
and important.
I would like to know why a too promising programming language created in
1999 still isn't used professionally or at least isn't more known ?

My question is: Why D ???

Hello Marcelo,
My guess is because the standard library isn't set in stone yet. That would be an obvious reason, and theres still some parts of the specification that have some of Walter's notes to self to consider reworking someting.

Thats all I can think of.

My guess is that Walter is only one person, and he is trying to the do the work of a (large?) team all by himself. And that means its going to take ages for all the work to come to fruition, regardless of how good Walter can analyse, design, code, and test.

Walter is willing to accept submissions of library code and (minimum size)
examples that demonstrate bugs, but there is no guarantee that it will be
accepted into the product.

Because it is *so* promising. It is still worth waiting for. Recently, Walter has been concentrating on fixing bugs and has virtually frozen the specification and standard library. The current reliability of the compiler is very good and improving with each release. The compiler test suite currently has 1685 tests and the latest version fails one only 173 of them.

It wasn't created in 1999. It was conceived in 1999. If D existed back in 1999 as it does today, then a couple years ago most people would've been saying things like:
- "C++ is so last century."
- "But Java is so uncool compared to D."
- "Remind me again what C# is. Is it something important?"
- "Dot what?"

I thought that D was on the right track a few years ago, and it's improved a lot since then. The language spec is finally just about locked down. The number of libraries for D is beginning to mushroom. Everything is reaching critical mass for D's long-term success! (Okay, I admit I'm a little biased from following the D newsgroups for a few years.)
