That is sad to hear and hopefully doesn't ruin to many plans. Maybe I'll be able to make it next year.
Also the front page dlang.org needs updated.

That is sad. But hopefully, I'll probably be able to participate in 2013.

Well, no matter where you pick, it's too far for someone.

The Astoria location enables us to keep the registration costs low, without compromising. It's a great location.

It's a fine location for me, but I live in Central California. I think that it's mostly people who are in places like Europe or Australia and who lack the time or money to make a trip that far who were unhappy with the location. And there's not much that we can do about that. Moving it to someplace else (e.g. somewhere in Europe) would just change who is having the problem. Every tech conference has the same problem.

How many we have / how many we want?
I don't consider myself a good speaker, but I could talk about D stuff anytime. For example, that "Modern COM in D" thingie I did, etc...

That would be good, but it won't be until sometime next year.
Essentially, we'll need a full, committed lineup of speakers 6 months in advance, enough for 3 days.

Agreed but Silicon Valley is a good choice. (Not because I live there. :)) There is a strong culture of groups having monthly meetings and companies donating venues. Arguably, almost any software person knows someone in Silicon Valley too, so lodging would be free and more comfortable for many. That would not be as intimate as a meeting at Astoria but would attract more audience from many groups of people who are interested in D but not as much to fly to another state. Ali |
