Responding to spam encourages it. It's what the spammer wants. The same goes for abusive posts.

If you still feel you must reply to it, do not quote any part of it.

I find that hard to believe, especially since spam threads like the one I linked are completely nuked from the forum.

Sure, that makes sense. I sometimes try to reason with the person, but not if the abuse continues.

In the mailing list thread linked above, I only responded to tell codephantom that it was spam and that you prefer people not to respond. I figured that was okay since he already responded to it.

btw, I sent you an email last week about some forum deletions that some moderator may have gone overboard with, haven't gotten a response yet.

I didn't say it's impossible to delete messages from the NNTP server. What I said was, "it wouldn't be something that could be synced across the other interfaces", and that absolutely is true. If you download a newsgroup message from the server before it's deleted, you've still got that message locally. The same holds for those using the mailing list interface.

Yes, I was only talking about your statements about there not being a moderator and implying forum posts couldn't be deleted, as should be clear from the rest of what I wrote.

It certainly looks like at least one post has been deleted

So it must be possible afterall ;-)

People would still have it locally if they don't use the online forums.

It depends on the settings of the NNTP client too. Thunderbird can list a spam post but sometimes I get a message to the effect of "server said no such article" when I click on it. Even if the article is cached locally, the client can drop it.
