What's the exact command to generate the patches? I think we should document this somewhere to make sure there are no format changes in the patches which mess up git diffs.

In more recent times, I've just gone with 'git diff' on a checked out gcc.git repo.  Or 'git diff gcc' to only get changes to the ./gcc directory and below.

Before that, it was 'diff -pur'
