Brad Roberts and I have been discussing putting on the first D conference. We'd at last all get to meet each other! This announcement is to gauge the level of interest. It would be either in the spring (March) or early summer (June). It would be in Seattle, Washington or Astoria, Oregon. Both places are prime vacation spots. It would be 1 or 2 days, depending on the number of presentations. It would need commitments from at least 20 people to make it a go. |

Contingent on my ability to get there free of charge, I would attend. I might even have something to present on.

I can say with reasonable certainty that there'd be no budget for sponsoring anyone, sorry. We're looking at sponsored meeting space right now, which is non-trivial all by itself.
Sorry,
Brad

I didn't expect it, more along the lines of hitching a ride with someone, or a cheap train/plane ticket. I'm not BROKE, but I don't have any sort of budget for travel. (Being a student is bad sometimes)

Why not schedule it a immediately before or after SDWest, and host it in the same building?

Just a point on fares and destinations for us Europeans; We are more likely to find direct flights to Seattle (there are from Copenhagen for instance), and it will be expensive :P My first search gave me 1200USD for a roundtrip in June. There are several possible difficulties, but I will try to come. -- Lars Ivar Igesund blog at http://larsivi.net DSource & #D: larsivi |

Sometimes there can be dramatic differences in fares to Portland, Seattle, or Vancouver BC., which would be traded off in driving time.

Since I'm located in Portland, Oregon, both of those places are just a few hours away. I'd almost certainly make a point of showing up. I might even be willing to say something about Pyd. -- Kirk McDonald Pyd: Wrapping Python with D http://pyd.dsource.org |

This might be true for US residents, but the airline above have no flights to Canada, and the flight to Portland goes via Seattle and more than doubles the price :) The above price was with Scandinavian (SAS), KLM had slightly more expensive fares, other alternatives (BA, etc) might apply to residents of other European countries. Note that students might find better offers using Kilroy Travels, whereas travelling agencies for non-students generally leads to more expensive tickets than buying directly from airline. -- Lars Ivar Igesund blog at http://larsivi.net DSource & #D: larsivi |
