He's still involved with the D. He's still involved with the D Foundation. He's still working with the students he's been working with. He's still doing many of the D-related activities that he's been doing. However, as far as the DIP process goes, actively focusing on Phobos, and other activities that pertain to being one of the two heads of D, he's stepped back, and Atila Neves is now filling his role. So, for instance, when a DIP is reviewed, it's now Atila who makes the decision with Walter rather than Andrei, and poor Atila is now trying to watch all of the various Phobos PRs to keep track of what's going on. Andrei is still very much involved, just not in the same kind of leadership role that he has been, because he didn't feel that he could focus on it enough with what's going on with his family and how he's needed to focus on them. - Jonathan M Davis |

The more we have more capable hands in the Dip decisions making the more the dlang will make progress.
As a very long member of the community and one with a thorough understanding of the language it will be better to be among the DIP decision. A committee of 5 persons will be better than 2.
If there have been 5 persons or more making decision about the DIp and standard library the pressure on andrei would not have been much to the point of letting go of some duties.
More hands pls

I think it's safe to say that there is not a consensus that design by committee is the best approach for a programming language. The more informed input, the better, but the final decision has to be made by a small number of people. If there are n people making decisions, the language will reflect 1/n of the values of each decision maker.

Thanks, Mike. And thanks to all for the concern - I also got a few private emails asking me for the juicy details. Of which there are none - my family needs me and some volunteering activities had to give way.
As Jonathan mentioned I'm still working with my students and working on the Foundation administration, legal, taxes, and finances.
I've been involved with D since 2005. That's an eternity in this business. I think bringing Atila to the fore is a great positive because it brings a fresh perspective and approach.

Hi Andrei,
Reading between the lines, I get the impression that you have given up on evolving D as a language? Can't say I am surprised.

Don't read between the lines.

If you actually took time to read his message as well look at his statement given at dconf you'd know he definitely hasn't given up on D.

What happened?
Just kidding... I think people need to chill about gossips, and by the way Dlang have a small but great number of contributors working on different fields, like: GDC, LDC, phobos, packages, lib bindings etc.
And that been said I wouldn't be worried right now about anything.
