I definitely agree--the Digital Mars logo shouldn't be so prominent. Also that clicking it takes you to digitalmars.com is weird--a user will definitely expect to be taken back to / instead.
As for thoughts on a logo itself, just something simple with a unique font like the one at http://python.org/ would be fine.
