I first started playing Empire on the Vax in college circa 1981 and spent many a long night on it when I should have been sleeping or doing homework. I downloaded v2.01 for XP a few weeks ago and have really been enjoying it. However, I do miss the computer asking me "Are you sure you want to ..." when I accidentally run a ship aground or march an army into the sea. Why were these idiotproofing features removed? My poor armies really need to learn to swim!

Would you want an idiot as Emperor? <grin>

Good Point! <laugh>

My poor armies will just have to put up with my hasty moves.

My poor armies will just have to suffer with my hasty moves.

We do/did have a few in this world.... Plus a couple of leaders that went to war recently....

Bah, just leave it at that...

Sure, "Play war! Don't make war!'. It is far more better to "kill" thousands of opponents on your PC than to kill a real human. There is something called "consequences" which is often forgotten by the "emperors".

Its easy to sit in security from afar and pass judgement on Bush and Blair. No alternatives are ever given either. The most idiotic thing a leader can do in crisis IS nothing.

I won't get into a long discussion on this, but anyone who says we weren't justified just doesn't have a grasp on the facts of the matter.

Barring the fact Saddam killed over a million and people protest removing him....

On the topic of Bush I saw Fahrenheit 9/11 yesterday and I was very moved by it. I was expecting lots of Bush bashing but the interviews and footage about Iraq were extremely powerful and intense. What the ordinary soldiers say is just chilling. I recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it yet.

Well, just the act of posting this will incite a long COMPLETELY OFF TOPIC DISCUSSION.

Drop it or be known as a troll.

ohhh - this newsgroup only gets a trickle of postings anway. What we need is a nice "d.advocacy" group consisting almost entirely of off-topic flamewars. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA (as JTK would say).

just kidding.
