Hello fellow netizens,
This is a selfless plea to be adopted by a competent programmer. I have lots of time on my hands, energy and a burning passion to learn. I'm looking for someone with a few extra minutes to guide me and help me learn good programming practices and design. I'm basically looking for a mentor of sorts to email or message back and forth with me and occasionally have take a look at my code and critique it. Maybe when I don't understand how to do something, give me a few pointers. I post this message here in D land because out of all the languages I've been learning (C++, PHP, Java, D, Visual Basic), I like D the best and would like to be on the cusp of emerging technology.. hehehe... Anyone interested in helping reply to this message or email me at marcus.koontz
at comcast.net.

(speaking of mentoring a programmers mentoring website would be sweet.. I'll have to look into starting something of the sort)

Marcus, you are on the right way, but
I guess it is better to make a new news group here (beginners?).
Because questions and answers in discussion could benefit
everybody.

Andrew.

Andrew,
I agree with you fully. It's just I have already asked about a beginners group here with no avail. So I decided to take my fate into my own hands.

Marcus

Hey, I just had an idea! Since DigitalMars hasn't shown interest in a beginner newsgroup, the beginners can start there own somewhere else. D_Lab (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/d_lab/) has virtually no traffic. As the "owner" of D_Lab, I can assure you that you're more than welcome to set up the beginner's club there. (An added benefit of Yahoo! groups is the option to have list messages e-mailed to the members that don't like to visit the group website. And there's space to upload some files, too.)

I expect another option would probably be to have a dedicated beginner's forum at dsource (but that's Brad's baby, so I won't try to speak for him). :)

Hi Marcus,

What is your development environment? Windows? Linux?

Do you have something in mind you want to do?

I was working on a project that stalled out for lack of time on my part, and could use some help. I'd be glad to try to direct your efforts to get it moving again.

I believe "adopting" someone who has a fake e-mail adress is not a very good perspective. This stinks even more than the ubitiquous "nigerian letter".

But unlike "the ubitiquous 'nigerian letter'" it doesn't have a song about it: http://frontalot.untimelydeath.com/mc_frontalot_-_message_no_419.mp3

I agree that using a fake e-mail address on a newsgroup is bad form and impolite. But I also think Marcus' previous posts showed that he has a genuine interest in the D language.

It may also be a way of avoiding spammers. I thought it was common practice in newsgroups to do hide or obscure ones email address.

If somebody want's my email address then they can ask me for it.

Fake email addresses are the sad result of spam email address harvesters. I wouldn't fault him for that - a lot of regulars here use such for exactly that reason. Anyhow, there's a new newsgroup digitalmars.D.learn for stuff like this.
