GameDev.net often hosts game programming contests. They have just announced the latest one:

http://www.gamedev.net/community/contest/4e4/

Prizes have yet to be announces, but they've got some great sponsors lined up, including ATI and Charles River Media (publishers of the Game Programming Gems series, AI Wisdom series, and many more game dev books).

I know there are some around here who have been interested in using D for game stuff. Since we have bindings for OpenGL, SDL, OpenAL, and even DirectX floating around out there, I think this would be a good opportunity to showcase D a little bit. Most of the GDNet members are hobbyists (many teenagers), but there are a good many professional programmers there also (and not just from the game industry). It would be nice to see a few D entries in the mix. I'll be submitting one.

And just to get the message across, a 'Powered by D' logo (including the addie to the webpage) would be a nifty splash screen for the D entries. That would require someone to create one, and for those entering to use it.

Just thought I'd pass this on.

It's really great that you're doing that. Keep us posted.

Yes, that is a good idea. I stink at using paint programs. Anyone else?

I'll submit something, if I get it done in time. : )

Ooh. Development on nonagon is going to have to be kicked up a notch ;) So I can make a game by the end of October. I'm in the process of getting animated models to work; then I can put in sound and have a basic little engine to use. I'm a kind of mediocre artist, but I can make simple stuff..

Well here's something I cooked up just now. Its in 640x480 but I could just as easily make it available in 800x600 or 1024x768.

Another idea:

A simple message "Programmed in D" in a pretty simple font, with lots of D code (particularly array usage, delegates, etc.) in light gray on the background? Something that would attract programmers, and introduce them to the cool things about the language...
