Empire mouse support
I just bumped upon this newsgroup and my god it brought back memories
of Empire back in the days. The game itself works fine, no crashes no
problems what so ever, exept there is no mouse in game?! i clearly
remember playing this game with a mouse.

Can anyone help me how i get mouse support in Empire?

What did this mouse support do exactly?

Which version are you using?

The Windows version, at least, doesn't seem to have mouse support at the
moment. But one improvement I've thought of is to support the mouse for
surveying. Maybe I'll have a go at implementing this.

Re: Empire mouse support
I never heard of mouse support, EXCEPT on the macintosh, called Strategic
conquest: If your interested in supporting it:

1) Can you provide more of a warning for marching into the sea? on the windows
version it happens a *lot*, and that had me get the DOS versions.

on Strategic Conquest on the Macintosh, support for the mouse was as follows:

If you clicked on a unit to give directions, it would draw a line from the unit to
the square you held the mouse, and it would live scroll. If you were in the upper
right of the map, and you moused over to the lower left, it would send your unit
along that path.

If you clicked on a city to give directions, it would set the city directions for
flight. I dont think you could give a city directions for spawning armies, but I
cannot remember.

All aircraft needed this mouse capacity for movement, but since you could not turn
around in mid flight, and the aircraft only moved 4 spaces a turn, and had a
maximum range of 20, they increased the maximim range to 24, so you could fly out,
and fly back without running out of fuel. I only played Strategic Conquest for a
while, until an accelerator proved too fast for the scrolling.

Best of luck

Some of the third-party modifications have reinstated this warning. My
contributed version has it with version=idiotproof.

Sounds like the From/To command in Empire. Applied to a city, it would set
a 'fipath' (essentially diverts all fighters that land in the city), and
applied to a unit, it would send the unit to that square.

But units don't march into the sea, run aground or attack other units
(friendly or enemy) according to from/to instructions, so this would carry
through if a mouse interface to this feature is implemented.

I have no mouse support either and haven't heard of a solution. So,
if you or anyone else has one please email me at

AIUI, mouse support isn't implemented in the GUI versions of Empire. I
have, however, intended for a while to implement something in this area.
What exactly do you want this mouse support to do?

It's a generally accepted rule that, if you post an enquiry on a
newsgroup, you read replies on the newsgroup.
