Okay, I'm a dumb-ass ... got baited and responded to the "request for moderation" thing. Should never have responsed at all, my unreserved apologies for helping this continue far longer than it should have. Bill Baxter was right

I'm just wondering... does that post qualify as a "me too" post?

Maybe a book recommendation could come off passive aggressive,
but "Leadership and Self Deception" by the Arbinger Institute is a good
read. It's helped me not to be reductionistic about people's motives and to
be wary of justifying myself.

Message of the book is sort of summed up by:
"We deceive ourselves in subtle ways into thinking that we're doing the
right thing for the right reason"
whether this be baiting people or taking the bait.

Crap, I sound religious, but it has been a helpful addition to my view of the world.

I know what you mean. I've resisted posting some "rules of netiquette" here because I don't feel I have any justifiable moral high ground on such things.

My advice is always the same: don't reply to a post you feel is offensive. Doing so just makes things worse.

All of us also sometimes hit the "send" key in haste and immediately regret it. If anyone wants me to remove any of their own posts, I'll do so if they email me newsgroup and message number. It'll go away from the Digital Mars servers, but I can't control any copies that might have proliferated.

Many people have regretted posting something inflammatory, and have asked me to remove those posts. I am happy to comply.

This offer also extends to fake postings. If you're being impersonated by someone else, send me newsgroup/message numbers, and I'll yank them.

yep. but a vicious parrot has moral high ground over our resident kretinoid. look at wut hes said 2 u... how did he make u feel. kretinis biggest contribution to d was to leave u alone.

I think I'd rather just have the by-line edited to "Forger" or something like that, particularly if the real poster could be identified.

I refuse to edit posts on general principles, it's a fundamental issue of trust. Either they stay or they go, in totality.
