My lasting contribution to the D community has been to coin the term BeerConf[1]. It seems a shame that my legacy would be sullied by a virus carrying a similar name to bottled water passing itself off as beer.

Who's keen for an online BeerConf?

DConf was going to be held during midsummer, and that's a holiday weekend in Finland. So I'd like to suggest turning on a webcam in some kind of online meeting thing on a day during that weekend. Google might be the easiest but we're unimpressed with the quality lately so multi-platform suggestions (yes, that also includes mobile phones) would be welcome.

I wouldn't say no, but I probably won't be able to drink beer until the end of June.

In a move I'm sure will surprise exactly nobody, I'm in.

I like them with limes, but prefer Pacifico if I'm going to drink that style of water.

Today was actually the day my flight was supposed to leave for a family vacation in London, including dconf.

I'm totally down for an online get-together, and I would stress to everyone that you don't have to be a beer drinker to enjoy BeerConf. Indeed, I think some of our non-drinking D friends enjoy BeerConf more than some of us due to the entertainment we provide.

Check the NG for the first time in a couple of weeks, and see replies for online beerconf. This pleases me.

Midsummer is this weekend, but I guess we can delay it a week to give Iain a chance to prepare for beer. My birthday is also next week, so I can use that excuse too.

Any suggestions for video conferencing software? I assume no one wants to install the security nightmare that Zoom represents (I haven't). Slack supports video calls, but we've discovered a limit of around 15-20 participants. Which may not be a problem at all really. So perhaps the dlang Slack is going to be the best place to do this.

Google meet recently allowed premium features to everyone, even if you aren't paying. It looks like it supports up to 250 people? I haven't ever used it, maybe someone can vouch for it.

I'm good with next weekend.

Try jitsi from jitsi.org. it is open source and free with no time limit. It does everything zoom is capable of but more secure
