February 17, 2015 [NEEDING HELP] Translation of Ali Cehreli's book in French | ||||

Hello everybody, I'm the current translator of Ali Cehreli's book in French. You can find it there: http://dlang-fr.org/cours/programmer-en-d/ So far, I translated 48 chapters, and I began the 49th. My work is versioned here: SSH: git@gitorious.org:programmez-en-d/programmez-en-d.git HTTPS: https://gitorious.org/programmez-en-d/programmez-en-d.git I write here today to announce that despite my efforts, I'm afraid I can't find enough time and energy to keep translating the book anymore. There are just too many things to get done beside this project. I am willing to organize a translation group to finish the translation to get this wonderful piece of work within French speaking people's reach. Is anybody interested? Don't hesitate to send me an email if you are willing to get involved, even for the smallest task. There are no small tasks when a work is to get completed. I will tell you how to help. ps: Due to technical reasons, I lost corrections people brought by using the correction module present on the page. I'm really sorry for this. This mean there are known errors in the current translation. This also mean proofreading is also absolutely needed. If there is anything you need, don't hesitate to tell me, I'll try to answer the best I can do. Thanks for your attention, Cheers, Raphaël. |

I suppose I could give it some time.

Chapters are here: http://ddili.org/ders/d.en/ Untranslated chapters begin from Variable "Number of Parameters". I have to finish the struct chapter. You can use a word processor to write the translated version (better use free format like ODT) and I will translate it back to whata, the format I use to write the translation, or, if you feel you can write directly in Whata, following exactly the format I use in the repository, it is even better. Or you can use DDoc or markdown and I'll translate it into whata. In the cases of Whata, Markdown and DDoc, I suggest you clone Ali's repository : https://bitbucket.org/acehreli/ddili folder src/ders/d.en. copy/paste the file corresponding to the chapter you are translating and progressively replace english sentences by French sentences. It would be great if you included the revision number or the date somewhere as a comment or a variable in your document, so we can keep track of the changes. When you are done, just send me your file, with your name so I can include it in the list of contributors. In any case I'll proofread, fix (asking you if it is an important modification), translate into whata if not already written in whata and send in the repository, adding you to the list of authors of the document. To begin the translation of a chapter, I suggest you tell it here so two people are not translating the same chapter at the same time. If you prefer proofreading, just proofread the html version here: http://dlang-fr.org/cours/programmer-en-d/ and send me an email for each error. You can use the tag [relecture] in the subject of the mail to ease my task, but I can live without. When you proofread a chapter, tel me so I can keep track of the chapters which has been proofread and who did it. I think I'll include all this data directly in the repo and in the html version of the book. Note on the translation: - Instead of "ci-dessus" or "ci-dessous", I used "ci-avant" and "ci-après" across the whole translation. - I translated slice into tranche. This is arguable, we can discuss about it. - I tried hard not to use English words. If I did, I put them in italic and I always explain what it means in French. Cheers, Raphaël. |

Posted in reply to Ali Çehreli | I didn't realize I translated 56% of the book. It's unfortunate I can't translate the 44% remaining. I would have liked to, but if I wait for fee time to do this, we can wait for long.

Ok, I am gonna start with the "Variable number of parameters chapter", then.
I am thinking about using ODT/LibreOffice at the moment, since I don't know much about whata and don't have a bitbucket account yet. I'll get into this when I have some translated work to show.

Olivier

Ok, great!
I didn't expected anybody to no "much about whata", it still lacks documentation.
I don't think a bitbucket or a gitorious account is necessary, you just need to download a file, translate it and send it to me by e-mail if you want to work that way

This is a great idea. I think we will consider contacting them if people who want to work on the translation here feel we should, or if the way we are working know doesn't fit, for any reason. My current feeling is that the D community is here in these newsgroups.
The translation is sure an open source project, keeping the original license of Ali's work, as stated in the introduction of the translation.
I wouldn't do anything closed on my own initiative if I don't have a very very good reason to, supposing such a reason even exists.
