Is it possible to create a kernel for an operating system in D?

It seems very obvious, but I have not been able to find any information on the subject to confirm this. So I'm wondering if it's possible.

Indeed it is. Many people have done projects in this vein, the language isn't the limitation.

If you use the -betterC switch, you can fairly quickly get up and going and program a kernel as if you were using C, except with a nicer language. All other considerations like linker scripts ext. still apply however.

Yes. It's been done before. In fact, there was a talk at the most recent dconf from someone who has been working on one:
