Has anyone tried to use WTL to create windows applications without MFC?  I think the old version of WTL would work with ATL 2.x, however the latest version (3.1) needs ATL 3.0.  If no one has tried it, then I will probably do so in a month or so (I'm going on holiday).

No...
I have heard of  VXCL, but never used it.
I think for ATL 3.1 you will have to wait for the compiler to be updated in the
template department.
