If it gets any closer, it will just give us less time to get there for when we have to move all of Earth's inhabitants there due to us spoiling the planet. I've recently readen something interesting on a magazine from a scientist, it's something like this:
[quote/]
Before 1000 year, Mars will almost certainly be terraformed (transformed to a liveable planet).
During this short periode of time ( after all it is less than 1% of homo sapiens existance ) the situation of the humanity will not be comfortable as it is able to detroy its only planet.
After that, humanity is saved as there is very little probability it destroys both planets at the same time.
And as it is the first step that count most, soon we'll want to go further. At the speed of only 10% of the light speed, it takes only 50 years to go to the nearest stars.
The good news is that sun is a most ordynary star and it seems most ordinary stars have planets.
Be sure before one million years we'll had spread on the gallaxy.
This is ineluctable.
And that means there is probably no aliens in our galaxy: if they were only one million ahead of us ( and what is one million year ? ) they must be already here.
