You know, I really do have to agree with that skulking anonymous lurker. Not that I support the claim against Matthew (per se :-), but the observation itself has some fundamental truths to it. Unfortunately, the nature of an NG tends to fall prey to "squeaky wheel" syndrome.

Each day it seems there's another half-dozen posts that borderline-abuse the basic notions of civility and self-control, or aggrandize through flaccid pomposity.

I, for one, have been thoroughly discouraged from posting recently simply because there's been a vast increase in the megalomania/ foot-stomping/ SHOUTING level during the last two or three weeks. Now, there are those who may be glad to see the back of me and my wimpy ignorant perspective, or indeed feel that I never has anything of value to contribute anyway; but I wonder how many truly valuable posts are being stifled from others who catch the same acrid whiff as I?

Anyway; the NG is what it is. All I can personally do about it is to either become less sensitive, avoid the NG altogether, or hope that certain supposedly mature individuals get over themselves and their 1.5 seconds of fame. Of course ~ then another is bound to come along <sigh>

There is a true wealth of information in the collective mind present here; Wouldn't it suck to see that permanently tainted by a few squeaky wheels ... ?

This is all _way_ over my head. Given that anonymous lurker is anonymous, it's hard to intuit the purpose of their post. Sarcasm, barb, or both? It's beyond me, I'm afraid

For my part, I'm a simple soul: if I've p-eed anyone off, please just tell me. If I agree, I'll apologise. If I don't, I won't, but I'll probably apply a different output filter when replying to that person in the future.

Any takers?

I've dropped off also, partly for the same reason. It's getting to the point like there's too much traffic to digest, and much of it _very_ long-winded. I can only assume that Walter has decided not to sleep anymore.

(Or you can always just block messages from really rude people, then you're not troubled by them again. Works a treat.)

I think you need to stick it out, at least until Mango has become all it can be.

It would.

At some point we'll probably need a moderated NG, but as that's even more work for someone I'd rather that time be a long way off. I've been enjoying Walter's responsiveness recently and would hate to see him get sick of the drama and start ignoring us ;)
