I was in a band in the Baltimore area for a relatively recent while. I'm an industrial/metal guitarist kinda guy myself, although I don't have much to show for it since I've been busy writing a sound app for Linux (http://www.gazuga.net), and teaching myself how to program in the process. Yeah, it's in C, so sue me... http://esm.opensrc.org for the one "song" I threw together to prove that my newbie self could actually write functioning code, if anyone's interested. Oh, yeah, I'm new here, so "greetings to all" and such. Hmm... what can I say to make me seem brash and arrogant in my frist psot? How about, "resist the evil temptation of featuritis." I get afear'd watchin' some of the discussions =-O --Pete |

Yeah, it's in C, so sue me... Awesome. Glad to meet some more quasi-local D enthusiasts. Lemme get OT here for a sec. I listened to the sample you had up there for your software... wow. Nifty stuff... and terribly reminiscent of a "demo secene" chiptune (see: www.scenemusic.org). > >http://esm.opensrc.org for the one "song" I threw together to prove that my newbie self could actually write functioning code, if anyone's interested. Open source insdustiral music? That got my attention - nice touch. I listened to the riffs and beats: your chops beat mine to hell and back (f4.ogg seems to be coming along quite nicely). >Oh, yeah, I'm new here, so "greetings to all" and such. Nifty stuff... and terribly reminiscent of a "demo secene" chiptune (see: www.scenemusic.org). Hey, thanks for the linkage, let me throw one back at ya: www.kohina.com Yeah, it is very chippy, mainly because I wanted to show off how easy it is to get that one-octave square-wave oscillated pitch sound. Uber retro, uber schweet. I also had just discovered www.machinaesupremacy.com and was blown away by their amalgam of SID (which was completely new to me) and metal. Hence, I figured the demo should be a lil' tribute of sorts. >Open source insdustiral music? That got my attention - nice touch. I listened to the riffs and beats: your chops beat mine to hell and back (f4.ogg seems to be coming along quite nicely). Don't feel too bad about the chops thing, I'm pretty sure every guitarist is quite unhappy with what he's got (I know I sure as hell am). The song is going to get a *total* overhaul once I finish creating a new GUI for my app. The engine works well, but the interface makes it a pain to be creative and productive with it, hence f4.ogg sounds really unfinished. >Welcome to the group! Ah, I feel the love. |

Posted in reply to J C Calvarese | Hi Justin, Long ago in a distant galaxy, there was a radio series called "Chickenman", with the opening words being, "He's here, he's there, he's everywhere. He's CHICKENMAN". You seem to be one of the "Chickmen" of the D inner sanctum ... it seems that just about everywhere I look trying to get up to speed on D, I come across one of your posts. Now "Taps"? :-) BTW, sounds pretty good. Just wanted to express my appreciation for all you do in advancing the usability, professionalism, and acceptance of D. And managing to be a "good guy" while doing it. Lynn A. "As for me and my house, we will program in D", Joshua 24:15, NLV (New Lynn Version :-) |

Thanks. You caught me on a good week. I don't think I create much in the D world, but I try learn from what others do and help share the knowledge. The time I spend with Wiki4D and the tutorials at dsource are mostly my efforts to re-organize the information stored in the D newsgroups. There's hasn't been as much activity on the main D newsgroup the last couple weeks (I think some people are on vacation), but in the last few months there's been a flood of posts. Referencing some of the threads in the wiki and tutorial examples prevents some of this material from being lost in the blizzard. > Lynn A. > > "As for me and my house, we will program in D", > Joshua 24:15, NLV (New Lynn Version :-) LOL -- Justin (a/k/a jcc7) http://jcc_7.tripod.com/d/ |
