Hey all,

Not sure if you all know this already but cygwin now comes with an option to install GDC. www.cygwin.com

That's great, but it appears to be a secret. I can't find any comment on this on the cygwin site, or perhaps I missed it.

I thought everyone knew. It's being there for a while now. I don't know how long, but I remember seeing it there since beginning of January, 2005.

Well I noticed it only be running the Setup tool, and explicitly downloading the D Programming Language package.

Hmm yea I dont see an 'official' package list, just in the actual install GDC is listed.

Last time I saw it, it was an August 2004 version, quite unstable to be used for any serious developement.

The gdc D compiler is installable with the common setup tool. There is an option "gcc-gdc D compiler". As others pointed out the version is from August 2004 for gcc 3.3.3-3. All other packages have been updated recently to gcc 3.4.x.

Perhaps, we could ask the Cygwin gcc-gdc package maintainer to update the package to version 0.1 on actual gcc 3.4.x (does somebody know who the package maintainer is?)?.

The cygwin port is very valuable because the gdb debugger works fine -- possibly with graphical frontends, didn't try it, yet. The performance of executables is comparable to native windows ones. I did not encounter problems with stability but with the old Phobos (i.e. std/stdio.d is missing).

Greetings Martin

come to think of it, I think that's where I learned about D in the first place. I was installing Cygwin, sad GDC, and then looked it up because I was curious...
