Hi all,

Does anybody know how can I disable (if it is possible) POWER OFF button
when working in Windows2000?

The problem is that my little son (1 year old) often sneak to my computer and presses POWER button. Windows silently shuts down :-(. No matter what task it performs at that time (downloading 600+ Mb files from network or burning CD, or simply closes not saved files in editors).

Please, help.

Looking forward for a solution,
Nic Tiger.

Take a plastic cap - be it a coke bottle cap or whatever, one tape. Tape the cap over the power button.

There. That will fool the one year old.

Take a look in the coputer bios. Sometimes you are able to define the behaviour of the power button.
Look in the control panel at 'Power Options' tab 'Advanced'

Currently my BIOS set up so that to make HARD power off power button
should be pressed and hold more than 4 sec. But this applies only to OS
without ACPI (if I don't confuse this term) support such as DOS.
But when in Windows, when power off button is pressed the signal is raised
and this signal goes to Windows and Windows shuts down. There is no need to
hold button for 4 sec.
As long as power button only raises signal (not hardware power off), I think
there should be possibility to turn default Windows' logic off. I think this
can be done with system registry.
But I don't know how to do it.

Sincerely yours,
Nic Tiger.

Turn the computer around so the button faces the wall. <g>

What I did was put the computer in the closet, feeding the cables under the door. Mutes the noise, too.

I think your idea is the best one. Reminds me of my universal solution to the flashing "12:00" on my vcr. Put some black electrical tape over it.

This is same situation with me, My 1.5 yr old son often press the
button which cause my xp shut-down, Even when I put plastic or coke
bottle cap, its more interesting for him to deduct it. so anybody may
help me to disable just it's turn off system only ( Not Turn on)..
