Would you be open to try something else than GtkD then...

In D, some pipelines are not mature, yet, as one would expect but when it comes to actual coding, D just flies. I don't know your mileage in D, but usually it is punctuated of endless self remark such as: "seriously... awwwwwesome!", "That's it! you f***in other language that I should not mention in public", "those guys are brilliant", "for kids", and "prett-ay, prett-ay, prett-ay, pretty good".

You are probably very at ease with your actual setup but you'll still end up using two different languages, two editors, many more files (.h, .c) and probably some suspicious code, and or techniques, to glue everything together.

Look, you need to step out of your comfort zone to see the light!!! lol

my two cents. :D

I've finally gave that a try, and tried the GtkD HelloWorld.
On my machine it takes about 3-4 seconds to get the completion done with DDT. It's not a permanent freeze, but still, there's room for improvement for sure.

I will try to do some performance improvements for the next major version, since my next work task is on the semantic engine already.

I have now tried to profile it to find the cause, and I've found a major bug. Basically in this case there is no optimization problem per se in the engine, since the code complete semantic analysis completes in less than 10ms in my machine!
Rather there is a bug with DUB projects with subpackages (which is the case with GtkD) that makes DDT invoke "dub describe" everytime before a content assist, even though the dub.json manifests have not changed! This is where those 3-4 seconds are spent! :S

This has now been fixed in the latest DDT release.

On my machine, code completion now runs instantaneously on that scenario (after the first try).
