My suggestion is that Walter & co. should write a simple app which would parse IRC logs in the past few years and anaylize what are the critical hours in the channel when there is traffic peak and then to adjust their time of closing bugs appropriately.

Maybe, some pre-message could be generated by bot to warn in advance all the IRC users that "we expect that in 5minutes the channel will be bombed by the flood of closing bug reports, so it's a good time to make a short break (toilet, snack, light drink...)".

Of course we know that without introducing penalty fees for those who break the rule, nothing can really happen...

Sincerely,
Gour

I'm sure that it's much more effective for him to just do it all now and move on.

Coincidence: I'm German and didn't get the joke. Sauerkraut anyone?

I thought it was Danes who were into their dead baby jokes... or maybe it's just my friends. ;-)

If you don't know the reference, you won't get it. It's that simple. You need a reference.

It's like referencing a movie that you haven't seen. What is the point of explaining it unless you have seen the movie, you won't get it.

And I have to admit, I didn't have any idea what he was talking about until I read later about googling for it, and learned what it meant.

You don't even have your reference right :) It's a *Modest* proposal.

I'd heard of the paper in question years ago but had long forgotten about it. I certainly wouldn't have remembered the title or who wrote it.

This has had the unfortunate side effect of making it difficult to have a conversation in #d IRC with the bot constantly announcing these changes. I humbly request that those responsible slow down this behavior to a more tolerable level so we can talk uninterrupted in the #d IRC channel. I hate to call out someone by name but Walter in particular has been completely out of line with the volume of notifications he's been generating recently.

Walter toned it down somewhat and for that I'm grateful but Daniel Murphy has stepped it up. Just look at what we have to deal with: http://i.imgur.com/eGTH8.png . Terrible.

Freaking shift+enter.
