Yeah it was kind of surprising for me as well. If it's of any value I've had to implement a templated workaround for my own needs, it might help:

...it looks like you've just successfully implemented the inverse of don's
C++ FastDelegate hack in D.
I'd say about 80% of the reason I found and adopted D in the first place
was to get away from that FastDelegate hack... seriously. ;)

This won't do for foundational core API's.
