Per https://github.com/dlang/DIPs/tree/master/DIPs, it's at the "Formal Assessement" stage, whatever that means (I'm not well enough versed in all of the stages of the current DIP process to say what that means). However, I would think that if Walter and Andrei were aware of this particular problem with std::string, given the importance they place on interfacing with C++, it would greatly increase the odds of that DIP being accepted.
