I just received my Digital Mars CD and created my first dialog application prototype with AppExpress from within the IDDE.

However, I am very puzzled why none of my source displays are color coded as they are in my Symantec C++ 7.5 version of the IDDE.

I checked the editor's Edit > Text Settings... > Display tab as well as all other tabs for an indication of what might need adjusting, and I've searched the Digital Mars web site using all the appropriate keywords I could think of, and I turned up nothing helpful.

So how do I get the color coding of my source displays turned on? The source displays are now only in black and white.

go to
Environment--> Editing/Browsing Settings / Display

But I dont think that the comments and Keywords colors work.
(In my version anyway)

It turns out that the syntax color coding will work after I load part of the CD onto my "C:" drive and execute the IDDE from the "C:" drive. I suppose the IDDE needs to be able to write to the \dm\bin directory in order to turn on syntax color coding. At least, it does do some such writing to keep track of the last project loaded.

The failure of syntax color coding occurred when I tried executing the IDDE from the CD.

Mine is on my HD but I still have the problems that I mentioned.

The version was 8.26( I think) when I bought my CD, so maybe Walter has
repaired it by now.

The IDDE hasn't changed since then. Is it possible your files are marked 'read only'?

You are right Walter.

To tell you the truth, I have never even tried to set the
colors on the IDDE before this thread started, because this sort of thing
doesnt worry me.

Phill.
