April 19, 2004 Slashdotter asks: How far along? | ||||

I found my way here via a slashdot article. I found lots of great documentation about D but not much about D's progress. By that, I mean, "How far along is D?" I found the announcement about release 0.82. But I'm not sure what that means. Is D still in pre-alpha? If so, what will it take to proceed to a full release? How long will that take? Will D take a debian-like stance (we won't release until we're done with it!) or is there a defined release schedule? I'm just curious about how much attention to pay to it. If it really is as much like C and C++ as advertised, I'm not worried about learning it. And I can't really help develop it. The PHB wouldn't like that. But if its production ready now, I can probably pay attention to it. Any info would be appreciated. |

Then D 1.0 will be set in stone and later on Walter will begin work on D 2.0. Should be ready later this year. March was a target date (for 1.0) I think but that has come and gone. Still its getting ever closer to 1.0. Any help, even just getting the word out would be useful (the build up to 1.0, what fun). -- -Anderson: http://badmama.com.au/~anderson/ |

Posted in reply to J Anderson | I think that you can consider the current levels to be late beta quality. They aren't formally "release candidates," but we keep hearing from Walter that 1.0 is just a matter of a few more bug fixes.
