I thought I'd take the time to write this post because ... well ... I don't think I've actually seen anyone say this, and someone should.

Thanks, Walter. D is brilliant.

Of course we're going to see a lot of critique on this forum. Its the place for discussion, the place where bugs get reported, and so on, and I'm sure we've all got out little gripes that we like to grumble about.

But think now about how honored we are. D does have features which C++ does not. But we can't exactly head off to a C++ forum and complain about the deficiencies of C++ compared with D. (Well, we /could/, but what good would it do?).

And yet here we are, at the dawn (nay, the pre-dawn) of a new era. And the guy in charge of the compiler actually listens to suggestions.

I find all this very exciting. Cheers to everyone involved. Jill

Most of us already did, but allow me to add my voice to your's
and say again:
Thanks, Walter. D is brilliant.

I also thank Walter and Digital Mars on my D projects web pages.

Thanks, guys! Your interest and involvement in the D project is what keeps it going and getting better all the time.

Yep. > Thanks, Walter. D is brilliant.
I've only been playing with it for a couple of weeks and am glad to see
something that doesn't live off pointers and other old methods that just
don't make sense now, and I'm just outright hooked! > >

D is really a great language. It fixes inummerous problems in C/C++. I was searching a language like this for months. The power and flexibility of C and the security of Java.

Thanks Walter and all the guys that suport the project.

Bruno.

Hi Arcane Jill et'al,

One of the things I appreciate about D & Walter is the civility and productivity of [t]his newsgroup.

In the past, I submitted serveral questions [quickly answered ... thx], but have mostly been lurking lately. I'm pondering whether to convert an existing C++ / MFC gui freeware app to D. One of the larger considerations is the availability of assistance, and the associated 'pain threshold' for a newbie to get help.

The contrast to other lists/newsgroups I've been involved in is refreshing and inviting. This newsgroup could be a model of how others should function.

Hear, hear! This NG stands out in the areas you mention.

A good observation is that the civility, respectfulness, and the refreshing nature of this newsgroup corresponds to the degree of control shown by Matthew Wilson over his ego, as well as the exercise of forethought shown by 'mighty ego' Matthew.

I'll have you know I have a bigger and mightier ego than Matthew's.
