OOPs!!! I am red faced now.
I must admit that I was just clicking the link without noticing the closing ).
I had to type the url in to get it to work.
Now my question is: do I have to go to Mibbit or can I just use google talk?

You need an IRC client. Mibbit is a web-based one, and there is a Firefox add-on called ChatZilla that works fairly well. I've also used Trillian, Miranda, and mIRC on Windows.
