Which hurdles are you expecting? ABI changes?

I would have expected optimizations to be tied to the architecture. Maybe things like SSE are really i386 vs. i686 instead of 32 bit vs. 64 bit?

As someone stated in the bug report, this (nice) changeset reverts
(unintentionally, I guess) the patch of bug 4396.
