Hi! I'm a D newbie and just downloaded the latest DTL version. I'm eager to use it, but unfortunately I don't know how ... Where can I find examples? Holger |

I've been working hard earning money for the last couple of months. This'll be coming to an end in the next two weeks, after which time I plan a new, improved, with-examples & docs, release of DTL.
Until then, I'm afraid you're on your own. Sorry.
Cheers

Is this work for money on your C++ book?
I remember that you mentioned a few months ago
that it would be out in September.
But I looked and looked for it at Borders
last week and could not find it. :o((
Is it released yet?
Phill.

No, this is real world work - making some attempt to fill the hole in the mortgage that "grew" during the two years of writing the book where very little money was coming in. ;) I'm having heaps of fun writing middle-ware for a large corporate - a very heterogenous mix of technologies - although the time frames mean that I'm doing 80hrs a week, which is a lot less fun. But in a couple of weeks I'm taking some time off to sleep, hang out, read some books, start my next two books (one of which is about D; co-authoring with Walter himself!), catch up on my libraries, etc. etc. :-) > I remember that you mentioned a few months ago > that it would be out in September. > But I looked and looked for it at Borders > last week and could not find it. :o(( > Is it released yet? It is. It's oscillating between #3 and #7 on the Amazon.com C++ books bestseller list for the last couple of weeks. :-) I've heard from a few friends in the US that they've seen in at Barnes and Noble - which I assume is one of the major book chains - but I don't know about other stores. I've not (yet) checked whether it's in shops down here in Aus. ... Doh! I just realised you're in Aus. What a thickie. Well, erm, as I said, I've not looked in person in any of the book shops down here. I assume it will be in the larger Angus & Robertson and Dymocks but, like I said, I've not yet gone and looked, perhaps because I fear being physically ejected for dancing round the shop and shouting "I wrote that! I wrote that!". ;) > Phill. |

It's oscillating between #3 and #7 on the Amazon.com C++ books bestseller list for the last couple of weeks. :-) In Canada we have Chapters: it's on 6th for "C++" :) http://www.chapters.indigo.ca/default.asp?Lang=en&Section=books&Ntt=%22C%2B%2B%22&Submit_Search.x=10&Submit_Search.y=7 Ant |

Now that is scary, but at least it is somthing that you love doing. But in a couple of > weeks I'm taking some time off to sleep, hang out, read some books, start my next two books (one of which is about D; co-authoring with Walter himself!), catch up on my libraries, etc. etc. :-) Yep, I am eagerly awaiting that D book! Id like to make a suggestion, but it may get a bit complicated, so I wont. > > I remember that you mentioned a few months ago > > that it would be out in September. > > But I looked and looked for it at Borders > > last week and could not find it. :o(( > > Is it released yet? > > It is. Id probably get a t-shirt printed, anouncing my brilliance. lol As I said, I looked in Borders which is probably the biggest here in Melbourne. They are real big in the US as well. Ill take a look in the other shops for it, or maybe ask in Borders for it. Or even better if its not there, I can ask them to order it. Phill. |

I'm afraid I'm a shocking sloth, and always just order from Amazon (.com / .co.uk) |

I was thinking that it would be good if you had a section in your book about DUI(which is great to use) and some examples of using it. But then again maybe you would be upsetting other GUI programmers. > > As I said, I looked in Borders which is probably the > > biggest here in Melbourne. We're going to do our best to cover popular (at the time of writing) libs, but it'll be just in an Appendix, rather than focusing on one or another library in the contents proper. The book's more focused as a D language primer than as a library guide. Please feel free to send me any other ideas, though. Cheers Matthew |
