Jeremy aka phr00t (project author) is allowing me to post this to show the rest of the D community. This project hasn't really been worked on recently, but it is already playable and 'kind of' fun IMO.

What is it and how to play is here: http://www.dsource.org/projects/freeuniverse/wiki

Download for Windows users here (linux users, compile it yourself from source :-p ). Source code included.

http://svn.dsource.org/projects/freeuniverse/downloads/freeuniverse.zip (9.38 MB)

Tested on Windows XP, it should work fine on linux too.

The purpose of this post is to let others in the D community know about this project (I bet not a lot of people have played it), and maybe generate some more interest in it from other developers.

Have fun! I'm really busy now, but if there are any problems, I will try to respond/fix (within the next 24-48 hours though).

Thank you Clay!

I am trying to setup the environment on my machine to continue working on this project once again.

It's pretty cool. I'd recommend putting of readme.txt of the controls in the zip file.

Alright, I'll put it on the 'todo' list, the controls are on the site btw.

If you want to see this game developed further, it would be helpful to get any sort of 'impressions' from anyone as well, so we know what areas need special attention. Any sort of feature requests as well.

If you can't bother to play the game however, a brief synopsis of game play:

"Fly around a randomly generated universe and finding jobs (protect, follow, destroy, locate missions), just staying alive, exploring, trying to get bigger/better ship, and avoiding death in general."

http://www.dsource.org/projects/freeuniverse/roadmap are the impressions I got from h3r3tic on IRC :)

I know, it's just a general remark.

I do and will, it must have been a lot of work so far. I'll make some time soon to properly play the game and give some feedback on the forum.

Just don't get the impression that these were my only impressions ;) FreeUniverse is pretty cool to play, otherwise I wouldn't bother getting that 17th level Dreadnought and wiping away some space stations and a planet :D

I took the liberty to update this zip to a newer version that fixes some immediate bugs.
