In 2013 KolibriOS, an open-source Operation System written in
Assembly, applied for GSoC and was rejected as well. They went to
Kickstarter, and raised money for their own SoC:

Thanks for that link.  I use the web forum exclusively, and I am usually logged in when I post, and I couldn't seem to find a email addresses for other posters.
