Thread overview
Forums are back up!
August 07
The problem was caused by a failed upgrade to the NNTP software, so Jan Knepper reverted it to the previous version.

However, some messages from Jul 27 on were lost. If anyone has the messages on their system, save them. If we can't find them on a backup, send them to us and we can restore them to the server.

Huge thanks to Jan for getting this back up and running!

forum.dlang.org keeps copies of all messages, and downloads them as soon as they appear. You have SSH access!

More concerning is that if the NNTP database was reverted and the server started back up again, that means that some message numbers would now point at entirely different messages. So, now forum.dlang.org's database might become confused as a result as well.

It would have been nice to be in the loop so I could have helped avoid this situation; oh well!
