I replied to Charles message and my post appears to be posted before Charles's one. Must be a timezone bug (my tz is UTC-3:00) :D That's weird man! Tom PS: There's a guy on Barrapunto that claims that the Dylan language (http://www.opendylan.org) is faster (and solve things better) than D. Shame on him, Dylan syntax stinks! |

I don't see that as a useful comparison. Isn't Dylan a functional language kind of like Scheme? If you want to go there, I've heard Haskell beats just about everything.

Done. I can't stand those guys anymore (because of some replies to the main Barrapunto article). They try to discredit Digital Mars language features comparison table arguing that the table was done by the language creator. Think I'll not post anymore there 'coz debating with such loggerheads makes me very nervous and irritate me a lot >:( Tom |

In general, people don't like change. It upsets a (perhaps misguided?) perception of stability, and causes anxiety over the relevance of what they feel they already know.
Besides; it takes time & effort to learn and to appreciate something new :-)

Yeah, and it's hard to argue with the truth. (refering to the language comparison table written by Walter) I find it hard to argue with a table of YESes and NOes.

In my home country there's this saying that one should never argue with idiots,
lest people might have trouble distinguishing between the two parties involved
;)
I really like the approach and direction Walter has taken with the D language.
Instead of creating something alien, (shameless reference to Dylan and whatnot)
he has taken the good and familiar features of the good ol' set of languages
we've used and throwing a bit of improvements into the mix. The end result is in
my opinion a very good development language with good potential.

Noticed that barrapunto is a direct translation of 'slashdot'... if it is anything like the original slashdot (or any other popular web forum, really), you just have to learn to ignore the trolls. If you post one or two informative and well argued posts, that is usually enough. Never try to convince the idiots because it simply can't be done. The goal should be to convince the silent readers, many of which are on the side of reason even if you never hear from them. Nick |

I'd say the trolls have taken over those forums then. I can no longer stand reading slashdot comments, even though the news itself can be quite informative. The majority of the responses are stupid and immature, full of useless banter from self-absorbed people and those who fancy themselves clever comedians. And, as irony would have it, those are just the comments with high ratings (a further indication of the status of slashdots membership). I really haven't the patience to wade through the thoughtless to get to the thoughtful.
