Is there an optimum size for pagesize? What does the pagesize refer to?

I built DWT-Win and had to increase the pagesize to 4096 before it would build successfully. I have just built Tango 0.99.8 with the same pagesize settings and I got a warning that the pagesize was > 512. I reduced it to 512 and that built ok.
