I have just gotten my laptop booting under Ubuntu and want to throw a newsgroup reader on it so I don't have to rebut under windows just to read the newsgroup. What readers do people use (and like)?

Thunderbird's alright.  Of course you'll get mozilla anti-fanboys telling you it's awful.

Knode works well, either standalone or as a kpart in kontact

I do like KDE, but it's hard to talk about their apps without sounding like you're stuttering. :-)

which reader lets you select a view in which the threads are sorted by the date of the newest post in them?

and thunderbird really didn't do it for me :)

I also use KNode and find it excellent.
