The problem for me was, if it didnt work I wasnt going
to format my HD and all, just to find out that it didnt
work. So your "then it would just be it" statement is
rediculous.

I can recall the newsgroup being very helpful in the cases someone is actually not getting something to run, if this someone is able to say what he tried and what went wrong.

This helpful folk includes myself from time to time. I sometimes spend an hour or two debugging code from people whom i don't know and patiently explain what's wrong with it and how to fix it. So please don't value this as being unfriendly to you, it's just that in all the years it's one of the most strange (would you say "rediculous"?) threads i'm seeing.

Oh yes, "then it would just be it" statement is very ridiculous. But your urge to format a HD instead of searching for a problem source, and placing a question without taking a look at the subject also is. :)))

I think we have all spent a disproportionate amount of time on this thread, including yourself. And mind you, a new language with a somewhat less-than-perfect compiler is not something for people who are too tight on time, since one is guaranteed to run into small problems, lack of previous work, insufficent documentation, etc. It also requieres a fair amount of experience with different subjects, although given time we help one gain it.

I originally asked the question prior to reading anything
or doing anything about installing Fedora, because I
wanted to know that I can still use everything on
my machine that I enjoy.
I thought I would get a  yes or no answer, instead of
what I got.

Do you use std.socket now?

I have Fedora up and running now anyway.
The only problem that I have is with Thunderbird and the
way it displays its posts. I like how MS Outlook displays
it posts in a tree for each thread, its much easier to follow
a thread.
