Errr... because I would have to pay for the upgrade? I could get 2 DigitalMars CDs for that money!!! :)

I heard about a lot of incompatibilies with older apps, especially DOS-extended ones. DJGPP even has a special workaround project for the bugs in Win2k/XP NTVDM (I'm not sure it crashes, as other DOS-extenders do, or just doesn't have any more DPMI selectors. Perhaps someone with XP will volunteer to try a small "Hello world" compiled with DJGPP? :)))

Did you experience any problems with WinXP? How about 16-bit DOS, Win16 or X32 apps?

Me neither!

What kind of box do you have? 5x is a lot!
Mine is only 2x as fast as the old one!

I am not too crazy about USB either. Still use a regular keyboard and mouse. Also, my zip drive is IDE (buildin). I just order one with every new computer...

It was assembled from parts. I looked at the configuration options at Dell and Gateway, and basically couldn't make heads or tails of them. Spending 10 minutes yakking with the technician at the local screwdriver shop got me all the information I needed.

I got the nice brushed aluminum case. It sure looks a lot better than the beige plastic boxes I am so sick of looking at.

It's 5x faster not so much because the new machine is a screamer (1.6GHz),
but because my old one is so obsolete (200 MHz).

Naw, it never worked.

Doug has a new DOSX up that should fix the problems. I've had no trouble with 16 bit DOS or Win16 apps, in fact, they run better than on NT.

I've got a black plastic box and I love it!
Got a black flat-panel screen too!

Yeah, that will do it!

I heard some months ago about an updated version for XP, but it's not at http://www.dosextender.com, the page didn't get updated (or my proxy has a really bad personality disorder :)... WDOSX also has problems with XP, there's a technical explaination at http://wdosx.homeip.net/wdosx/xpmess.html (link doesn't always work), maybe it's also the reason behind X32 crashes?

Thanks for the reference. The trouble isn't the click of death. It seems to be more of a driver/XP bug.
