I know there's been heaps of D Journal talk lately, and it may be clogging up the newsgroup (I don't know). But I've just gota ask this stilly "which colour should we uses" type of question. It's not to do with the D language itself. I would like the groups opinion on these things 1) Using my 3d version of Mr D (D man) as the D Journal's. Perhaps he doesn't suit the D Journals mood. 2) A plan to make C, D arch enemy. 3) A brainy side kick used for the notes/tips (speech bubble or something). Perhaps this should be put to the newsgroup (or Matthew), but I planed on calling the sidekick "Complier Walter" because it's brains. My idea was to make the side kick a light bulb type of shape but I really don't have any ideas here. I work best from a diagram, that's what made converting Walters D man (and Walter is D man too ;) ) so easy. So if you can draw send me a picture. |

Good Idea, I'll give him a beard.I'd like to see D pound C into the dirt in the next couple of years. Or D beat C in running race. I'll think it's harder to come up with skits for a grandpar C and D. And I don't want to start a MS war by having a MR C#. Parhaps you have an idea for skits?
But I'm not arguing with you just presenting my POV...

Yes. I once drew up a cartoon that had D-Man kneeling and putting flowers on the grave next to C's headstone upon which is written: C R.I.P. |

Posted in reply to anderson | 1) Not sure. I'm not an aesthete, so ... One thing I would say, is that we are trying to make a serious magazine, that may eventually be turned into a paper & ink publication once it, and the D language, reach a certain level of coverage and respect in the wider development community. Hence, having a cute mascot is good up to a point, but I wouldn't want us to be saddled with something which we might look back on in embarassment (if it goes too far). 2) Don't really like it. Apart from Visual Basic, C is by far the most successful language that has ever existed (oops, here come the flames), and is still underpinning some very well-respected OSs out there. 3) This idea appeals, but if it's anything like the MS Office Assistant people will turn off in their thousands. However, I do like the idea that the Q&A answerer would be a "compiler walter" (Walter, I must apologise for having coined this phrase if you don't like it, or ask for a small gesture in your will if you do ;), and that would be nice to have a picture of. Overall I'm not too hung up on the image stuff, as it's not really my bag. However, I'm moved at the level of interest, and am hoping that transfers into the written word (hint, hint, everyone) ... He's friendly, and will attract the eye to the Notes which he will decorate. I was thinking about the issue with Mr. D. animations and skits and I think that they are on the whole a good idea, but perhaps something to be published _BY_ "The D journal" rather than _IN_ "The D journal." I don't see there being anything wrong with using a Mr. D cartoon in an article, if it introduces or illustrates something about D. In the last year, the computer magazine (PC PLUS) I read most, has been doing this more and more, especially in their news items and feature articles when there is little need for photographs. > 2) A plan to make C, D arch enemy. > 3) A brainy side kick used for the notes/tips (speech bubble or something). > Perhaps this should be put to the newsgroup (or Matthew), but I planed on calling the sidekick "Complier Walter" because it's brains. MMmm, maybe later on, I think any D user with any artistic talent should be working on Mr. D. poses, but not and the expense of any quality articles that they could be writing... -- Alix Pexton... Posted in reply to Alix Pexton | I agree, later on then. Get MR D up and running then think about his friends. My outlook on this was undeceive from the start, and unless anyone decides to change my mind. I'll focus on MR D (any if your lucky a D article). (Actually a friend suggested those other ideas to me) "Alix Pexton" <Alix@seven-point-star.co.uk> wrote in message news:01c219f1$1fb58e00$bc927ad5@jpswm... > > 1) Using my 3d version of Mr D (D man) as the D Journal's.
