I'm such a blatant acronym whore. I think the challenge is threefold: 1. There's an obvious reluctance to reuse an existing name or a name that's too similar (can we call it "dig"? D Interface to GCC). 2. The desire for shortness (who wants to type "OPENSOURCEDFRONTTOGCC" to invoke their favorite compiler?). 3.
