This same topic has come up repeatedly in the NG, the last time being just recently. If you are genuinely curious as to what people thing, use the search box on the digitalmars.d archives (http://www.digitalmars.com/d/archives/digitalmars/D/index.html) and I'm sure you'll find several threads covering a few years that rehash the same ideas.

Ultimately, Walter is the one who decides what D 1.0 looks like, and one more "what should 1.0 be" thread isn't going to speed the process up at all.

Here are some Wiki4D community pages with ideas:
http://prowiki.org/wiki4d/wiki.cgi?PendingPeeves
http://prowiki.org/wiki4d/wiki.cgi?HelpDProgress

And here are some old posts about this frequently asked question:

"Time to release 1.0" - Feb 2006
http://www.digitalmars.com/d/archives/digitalmars/D/33066.html

"What is NEEDED by 1.0??" - Mar 2006
http://www.digitalmars.com/d/archives/digitalmars/D/34743.html

"DMD v1.0 (again)" - Mar 2006
http://www.digitalmars.com/d/archives/digitalmars/D/35631.html

There's also all the D bugs, at http://d.puremagic.com/bugzilla/

I guess knowing *when* makes it easier to discuss the *what*...

Like, will it be another 5 years so that it can be made "perfect",
or is it more like weeks or months and just the urgent bugfixing ?

Personally, I'm a little worried because GDC has dragged behind.
(I would like GDC to be in synch with DMD, before such decisions)

But I guess that's more of a question for the D.gnu newsgroup...

Sorry about my noise.

but..., why not make a schedule or roadmap, it's unfair to ours, the users, the supporters.

i think that the users of D want to hear the voice of Walter.

Of course we would, but he has stated in the past that the goals and the corresponding ideal implementation changes the whole time, and making any kind of public roadmap would only raise expectations to a level were he at some point will be bound to fail at meeting at least some of them. As it is now, we know we have a great (and usable!) compiler that is improved by new releases normally 1-2 times a month. As for features, I believe it is mostly inplace (as far as the plan goes) except a complete implementation of IFTI. Then there are of course quite a few bugs left to be fixed yet.
