Minimal test-case on WinXP:
test.d:
void main() { }

$ set PATH=D:\DMD\dmd2\windows\bin;C:\Fake+-Dir
$ dmd -g test.d

OPTLINK (R) for Win32  Release 8.00.12
Copyright (C) Digital Mars 1989-2010  All rights reserved.

OPTLINK : Error 118: Filename Expected

GTK3 by default installs to C:\Program Files\GTK+-Bundle-3.4.2\bin, which breaks Optlink when compiling with -g.

Appears to work only if PATH is set to something that has absolutely no spaces in it, regardless of speech marks or quotes

The first example doesn't have any spaces in it.
