(I will avoid saying "forums are evil" because I know some people like them, they just do not fit into my workflow.) -- Russel. ============================================================================= Dr Russel Winder t: +44 20 7585 2200 voip: sip:russel.winder@ekiga.net 41 Buckmaster Road m: +44 7770 465 077 xmpp: russel@winder.org.uk London SW11 1EN, UK w: www.russel.org.uk skype: russel_winder |

I assumed by "mailing list" you meant "mailing list / forum / newsgroup / golden font of topical chatter"
I get that you have a workflow, but surely if you need some information it's not too hard to use a forum every so often?

It depends on whether the forum is needed to start a thread but subsequent contributions to a thread are emailed. The Gradle folk switched from a perfectly good email list to a shiny new, cloudy, cool kids, webby forum which has no capability of email (in a cloudy, webby, cool place who needs that ancient technology called email?). The Gradle developers have the approach "use the forum or do not get community support". So I stopped contributing to the Gradle community. If the GtkD forum is needed to initiate a thread so be it, but unless I get emails of the contributions to the created thread, the forum is worse than useless to me. Forums are fine if you are only interested in one or two communities, once you get beyond 10 forums are unworkable. At least for me. -- Russel. ============================================================================= Dr Russel Winder t: +44 20 7585 2200 voip: sip:russel.winder@ekiga.net 41 Buckmaster Road m: +44 7770 465 077 xmpp: russel@winder.org.uk London SW11 1EN, UK w: www.russel.org.uk skype: russel_winder |

I had missed that, but even then NNTP is not email delivered, and email injected: unless there is a gateway that handles this. -- Russel. ============================================================================= Dr Russel Winder t: +44 20 7585 2200 voip: sip:russel.winder@ekiga.net 41 Buckmaster Road m: +44 7770 465 077 xmpp: russel@winder.org.uk London SW11 1EN, UK w: www.russel.org.uk skype: russel_winder |

I'm using gtkd quite intensively, but mostly the gtk, cairo, pango, and limited gdk parts. What are you up to?

What are you up to? The project of the moment involves Glade, Gtk, and Pango, but with a heavy dose of Fontconfig because Pango makes a whole mass of assumptions that are unacceptable for the purpose of this project. The C++ version shows how weird C++ gets. The Python version shows how easy Python is for the same task assuming ctypes (CFFI is not yet up to the task). I am starting a D version just to see if it can do the needful – my expectation is that it will trounce the C++ version, the question is how the Python and D versions compare. Basically it is a font browsing system, hence the title GFontBrowser. -- Russel. ============================================================================= Dr Russel Winder t: +44 20 7585 2200 voip: sip:russel.winder@ekiga.net 41 Buckmaster Road m: +44 7770 465 077 xmpp: russel@winder.org.uk London SW11 1EN, UK w: www.russel.org.uk skype: russel_winder |
