The project is not live, it will be within a few days. In the spirit of having the community actively participate, I'm making this as transparent as it gets. Please comment: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/dlang/1177501541?token=df96761a Your feedback and suggestions are welcome. Thanks, Andrei |

Nice, I like the raise money first approach. Make it possible for those unable to attend to contribute to its success. I don't see myself being able to make it, but I'll have to keep it in mind.
I was going to write up a suggestion, but instead I'm going to write why I see the suggestion bad. I was going to suggest an unlimited tier for the expected ticket price. But that doesn't make sense as there will need to be a limit on attendees.

We could actually do that, as after breaking even on some expenses we could (at least in theory) scale up at a constant cost per attendee. But predicting the appropriate venue size will be difficult. And we'll do our hardest to bring you here. We have a shoestring budget for sponsoring speakers, but sure as heck we must bring major players such as yourself. If your employer doesn't sponsor the trip, you and I will discuss on how to defray expenses.

Question about: "Pledge $50 or more - DON'T LOSE YOUR SHIRT..."
So, the shirts will be send even for who live in another country? The value has shipping included?

Good question. I'll circle back to the logistics guy.

I'm not used to such event, but raising $35.000 seems quite a lot of money.
Still, you can count of some money of my own and I'll do my best to be present.

I hear you. We have a detailed budget model and we're not splurging in any way. Organizing a conference has quite a few odds and ends and weird pricing. As an example, location providers offer good prices for the location proper BUT they require using their own catering services, which is how they make money. I co-organized a few conferences and, believe me, a cookie has a different taste when you know it was $5. That being said, if anyone on this forum works in the Bay Area and takes this to their employer, we'd save a ton of expenses if a company could offer a meeting room. I have initiated such with Facebook, and they're looking into it. All - please email me if such an opportunity exists. > Still, you can count of some money of my own and I'll do my best to be > present. Sounds great, thanks! Andrei |

Thank you for doing this. First, I am glad that it will be held in Silicon Valley because I think this area still has one of the highest concentration of software people in the world. Also, I think every company out there has some ties here. Hopefully, some D people around the world will be able to shift their schedules a little and manage to be in the Bay Area around the same time as the conference. I would very much like to be a part of this by contributing as much as I can from being a lousy speaker :p to even shuttling people to and from the airport. :) Looking forward to meeting other D people. Let's make this happen! :) Ali |
