This is what svn imports are for - http://svnbook.red-bean.com/en/1.0/re12.html . The tests can stay in a separate repo, but are automatically included when you check out dmd.

PS: Sorry if this came out as a top post, someone has made gmane unidirectional, so I have no idea how to use the mailing lists properly now :3
