This will be useful to have for the upcoming fix to Issue 8143 (std.conv.toImpl will need it). And it will be generally useful to have in the standard library.

Doesn't std.traits.OriginalType already do this?

It appears it does. But it couldn't have a more un-original name. There's no way I would have found that..
