When I try starting RS32, it crashes with "Abnormal program termination", and then a page fault in SFC30.DLL. This happens under WinME (it worked under Win2k after Walter fixed it, but I had to change my OS). I have the CD version, updated to 8.27.5n.

Is there any fix available?

Regards,
  Laurentiu

This is the first I've heard it doesn't work under ME. No, no fix is available. -Walter

I also tried to launch RS32.EXE directly, by double-clicking on it. I see a small window, but it's "not responding"... it cannot even repaint itself.

Did you update the EXE version information after the original fix, that made it work under Win2k? It says 1.0.0 on my machine, does this mean I have a not updated version? I also tried the version that Jan Knepper sent me a few months ago (before being updated in the CD update package), but it behaves the same: completely frozen! And it displays "Resource Studio 1.1", just like the other one.

It seems that Microsoft is doing something strange! The Aladdin Ghostscript for Win32 setup kit froze during copying one file, but it worked fine after installing MSIE5.5 SP2. I don't know if RS32 worked before that, but it works now, after installing the latest security patch for the above mentioned MSIE... Should this have affected RS32 in any way, or MSIE is just so extremely deep in the OS???

Oh well... the good thing is that it works now!!! Thanks, Walter! :)

I have heard many programs having problem with earlier version of Win32 .DLL's. I many of my own programs I wrap the patches into the InstallShield to make sure they are being installed.

If you can consider WinME as "early"... :) I had problems with many programs that worked strange, or not at all (and worked flawlessly under Win95 and Win98, not to mention WinNT4 and Win2k). However, after each Windows Update, some of them started working. Now I think all of them are working properly (although it's hard for me to understand why this can have anything to do with MSIE DLLs!!), it's just that I'm getting BSODs from time to time (typically every 5-10 hrs). Oh well...

Maybe DigitalMars can produce a full CD version that works under WINE? <g>

  Laurentiu

It's good to know there's a fix for it! Anyhow, why not just dump it and get XP? In my experience, it doesn't crash nearly as much.

Do you run XP as well?

Yes. I don't have WinME, though.

It was time to upgrade everything. The new box is about 5x faster than the old, as measured by the compiler self-building speed. Everything goes faster, even the cd burner (4 minutes instead of 1.5 hours). The cd burner doesn't generate errors, either. XP boots up faster, which is a big help.

The only problem is the Iomega USB zip drive. I have to sit there and keep inserting & removing the disk until it randomly syncs up. Never had that trouble with the SCSI zip drives. I had thought I'd waited long enough for the USB vendors to work the bugs out.

I saw some interesting stuff about Iomega, on Gibson's site (http://grc.com) - maybe it's related to this? If it worked before, probably not...
